An HSP journey in song titles

The other day I heard ‘Senses Working Overtime’ (a song by XTC) on the radio.  It struck me how apt the title was for us HSPs.

My brain started coming up with other song titles which might describe different aspects of being an HSP.  I got “Lost in Music” (Sister Sledge).

I found myself thinking about the HSP ‘journey’.  Beginning with when we don’t know we’re an HSP.

The sense of flaw that accompanies us.  The belief there’s something wrong with us.  The fear of rejection.

Songs like “Misfit” (Curiosity Killed the Cat), and “All By Myself” (Eric Carmen) came to mind.  As well as “It’s Probably Me” (Gregory Porter) and “Please Forgive Me” (Bryan Adams).

HSPs often feel “Exhausted” (Foo Fighters) and sometimes “Delicate” (Terence Trent D’arby & Des’ree).

Constant Craving” (k.d. Lang) captures the longing to be understood and make sense of ourselves.

We’re often regarded as “Complicated” (Avril Lavigne) by others.  And can regard ourselves as “Hard to Love” (H.E.R.) because of that.

Then comes that magical moment when you discover you’re an HSP – “Suddenly I See” (KT Tunstall).

You realise you’re “Born This Way” (Lady Gaga).  There’s a reason you’re “So Emotional” (Whitney Houston) and like “Rolling in the Deep” (Adele).

The fact is you have a “Heart Full of Soul” (The Yardbirds).

You start appreciating traits like “Empathy” (Alanis Morissette, herself an HSP), “Honesty” (Billy Joel), “Integrity” (Aretha Franklin) and  “Intuition” (Lynx).

You now understand why you “Enjoy the Silence” (Depeche Mode).  And hope for moments when “It’s Oh So Quiet” (Bjork).

You begin to “Know Your Worth” (Disclosure and Khalid).  To stop apologising for the fact “I Am What I Am” (Gloria Gaynor).  And to feel, as a friend suggested, “This is Me” (Keala Settle).

I wonder what song titles help describe your sensitivity journey?  Or maybe something else captures that, and being an HSP, for you?

Whatever helps you connect, let your playful side free.  Have fun with what honours your experience and makes you you.
