An end-of-year poem

HSPs – and other soulful people – tend to love quotes and poems.  Something that captures, expresses, conveys, validates, inspires … [add your own verb].

The ‘HSP Quotes’ page of the website includes two from Victoria Erickson.  As we come towards the end of the year, I’d like to share a poem from her collection, ‘Rhythms and Roads’.

None of the poems have titles. I like that – it leaves things undefined, for the reader to make of the poem what they will.  I offer this poem in that spirit:

I have so much respect, appreciation and admiration

for all of you fascinating people

out there burning with intention,

creating, recreating, falling, dusting and rising.

You really don’t realize how brilliantly beautiful you are,

breaking old beliefs and grasping your bliss.

I realize it’s ridiculously hard and messy,

but you can do ridiculously hard and messy things.

Are you shaken?  Good.  Keep going.

You were shaken before and here you are.

Still standing.

Doing this.

Shining and expanding and gloriously undefined.

At the risk of being cheeky, I’d like to add ‘and unfinished’ at the end.  Because – whoever you are – you have more to come, more to do, more to be.  Exciting!

Wishing you all that you wish for yourself in 2024.
