Learning through laughing, clarity through conversation
‘Everything, Everywhere, All at Once’, words used to describe my HSP way of being by a non-HSP who has to live with it.
I haven’t seen the film but I knew the title. And the summary made me (us) laugh. Spot on and undeniable. We even agreed there was a phrase missing – ‘All the time’!
‘You’re always on the go, thinking, doing and giving 100%”. It was a compliment, and the mildest of rebukes, coming from a place of care. Either way, it got my attention.
Because it named something in a nutshell. Found exactly the right words for a key part of my HSP operating system.
But it was more than that. Those words were like a mirror that, in an instant, made something unavoidably clear.
My internal reaction went something like this:
“Ooh, harsh … but true
And funny
And ridiculous
Because not everything needs that much effort and attention
But that’s what you give, over and over
No wonder you’re always tired
Discernment – that’s what you need
Remember, that word another sensitive soul gifted you this week
Welcome the serendipity
You’re meant to learn something from this
It’s time for more options than just ‘full on’
And a new mantra
How about deconstruct, discern, decide?
I like it
Let’s try it
Who knew I’d find clarity from being teased? And a wise internal voice from deconstructing my reaction?
Every HSP I’ve ever met is ‘processing, processing, always processing’. Maybe this story will prompt some reflections about how you process? And open space for some new insights?
If so, I hope you can laugh along the way. It makes the learning we HSPs do so naturally even more fun.
